Ex-Thomas Cook chief John McEwan joins Expat Sport
Expat Sport is delighted to announce the addition of former Thomas Cook MD John McEwan as a non-executive director.
John has had a lifetime career in travel, starting as a trainee with Thomas Cook before spending 5 years in the USA in a senior role. John became managing director (UK) at the age of 36. He then went on to become MD of international business, comprising of 54 countries. During his time at Thomas Cook John introduced the famous strap line “Don’t just book it, Thomas Cook it”
After his tenure at Thomas Cook, John became the MD of Lunn Poly and subsequently Retail Director,TUI UK. In 2004 John was appointed as CEO of Advantage Travel Centres, the largest independent travel consortium. He retired from this role in April 2013.
John was elected as the first chairman of ABTA in 2009 and served an unprecedented 4 year term. In 2009 he was presented with a lifetime achievement award, inducted in to the Travel & Hospitality Industry Hall of Fame in 2010 followed by an outstanding achievement award.
